I maintain a private collection of 19th-century photographs including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. My collecting practice is both a passion and a form of hands-on research: I carefully open cases where the original seal has failed, gently clean the objects using non-invasive techniques, and examine them for hidden details such as inscriptions or notes. These discoveries often provide remarkable insights into the personal histories behind the images: providing documentary evidence such as names, dates, places, and photography studios.
